Pets and Divorce

Understandably, when going through a divorce or separation, many couples are focused on their own needs and those of their children. I have found in my practice that pets are a treasured part of the family. How will you address your pet's needs in a way that is compatible with yours? Parenting plans detailing rights and responsibilities regarding the children are the norm in a divorce or separation. Plans should also be considered in regard to the family pet. If, for example, you have two dogs, should you consider splitting the pair with each party getting custody of one dog? Other things to consider are health care costs for the pet, grooming costs and even visitation rights. Something to consider and best planned for.
