The Process

Initial Consultation

In our first consultation, you will be provided the opportunity to learn about the mediation process and to decide if it is right for you. At this time, we will also review the facts associated with your specific situation. Every couple faces different challenges and it is crucial that we discuss the relevant information needed to know how to proceed.

Mediation Services

The reason that mediation is so effective for most couples is that it takes individuals away from an adversarial approach and instead allows both parties to work with an impartial mediator who can help them assess their options in an informed and respectful manner. My goals as a mediator are to provide couples with:

  • Information about their financial and legal options.

  • A calm, respectful and fair setting in which to reach a mutually beneficial agreement.

  • A constructive and efficient means for resolving conflict that keeps couples from wasting time, money and energy.

  • A fair and complete agreement that both parties can live with.

Separation Agreement

At the conclusion of mediation, you can choose to have a separation/settlement agreement drafted. This serves as a legally binding contract that reflects the mutually agreed upon conclusions that you have reached. This agreement will be different for every couple but it often addresses:

  • Custody and visitation rights of minor children

  • Child support

  • Personal and real property

  • Retirement benefits

  • Debts and liabilities

  • Taxes

  • Spousal support
